AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Review

3D-V cache technology is a method of increasing the L3 cache capacity by stacking memory on the CPU die, and is characterized by having more cache memory capacity than products of the same class. When the cache memory is increased, more data is stored at once when processing data, and waiting time is reduced, so processing speed is increased. Thanks to this, the X3D series processes data faster and more smoothly than general products, and has particularly high performance in games.

The AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is a derivative processor of the AMD Ryzen 7000 series released in August last year, and has an 8-core 16-thread configuration. The 7800X3D occupies the top 7800 spot by itself without the 7800X.

In terms of performance, it is a product that combines the 3D-V cache function with the 7700X, which is 8 cores and 16 threads.

Compared to the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X, the base speed is 4.2GHz, which is 0.3GHz lower than the 7700X, and the maximum speed is 5.0GHz, which is 0.4GHz lower. However, even though the operating speed was lowered, the thermal design power (TDP) slightly increased from 105W to 120W. Through 3D-V cache technology, the L3 cache capacity can be solved faster with 96MB, which is 64MB more than the 7700X, and the memory supports up to DDR5-5200 in dual channel. Unlike the AMD Ryzen 5000 series, it has a built-in Radeon graphics unit that operates at a speed of 2200 MHz, so it can output monitor signals without a graphics card.

It falls behind the top products in terms of pure computational performance, but is similar or slightly higher in terms of gaming performance. This is because most game engines are optimized for octa-core (8-core) levels rather than utilizing all processors. Therefore, if the number of cores is important, such as 3D rendering or high-computation work, it is correct to choose a lineup of 7900X or higher, but 7800X3D is very attractive if you configure a pure gaming desktop.

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is a product that appeared only for games, enough to be called a gaming-only processor. It also delivers higher performance than top-tier products with higher core counts, and at the same time, it is much cheaper.

However, if the price exceeds $449, you need to consider it.
